The Downingtown Area School District is located in historic Chester County in southeastern Pennsylvania. The district’s 82 square miles includes the Borough of Downingtown, and the townships of East Brandywine, East Caln, Upper Uwchlan, Uwchlan, Wallace, West Bradford and West Pikeland. Downingtown Area School District is comprised of ten elementary schools two middle schools, and two high schools.

Bishop Shanahan High School

Bishop Shanahan High School is located in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Catholic school system. Named after Right Rev. John W. Shanahan, the third bishop of Harrisburg, the school is currently the only Archdiocesan High School in Chester County. Construction of the current building began in 1996, was opened in 1998, and the first class graduated from it in 1999. The school had previously been located in West Chester. In June 2008, Bishop Shanahan celebrated its 50 year anniversary with the graduation of its 50th Senior Class.

Delaware County Community College, founded in 1967, is an accredited, associate-degree-granting institution of higher education serving Delaware and Chester counties with two campuses, three centers and several locations throughout each county. DCCC has served many students since its founding. A recent graduate survey found that ninety-two percent of graduates rated their educational experiences at DCCC as “excellent” or “good,” and ninety-seven percent of graduates would recommend the College to another person.
