At the heart of our downtown is the West Chester Courthouse, designed in 1840’s by Thomas U. Walter, one of the architects who designed the Capitol in Washington, D.C. This classic revival structure is just one of the numerous historic structures available to West Chester residents that reflect our community’s history on a day to day basis. Other local historic attractions include Valley Forge, West Chester Railroad, the Brandywine Battlefield, the American Helicopter Museum and Educational Center, the William Brinton 1704 House and Historic Site, and the Chester County Historical Society. Though conveniently situated near metro Philadelphia, West Chester, like many communities of Chester County, is attractive to newcomers due to its natural beauty and ability to be both modern and rustic simultaneously.

Chester County Parks and Recreational Services maintain over 5,000 acres of farms, park lands, historic properties, open use spaces and trails throughout Chester County. West Chester park amenities include playgrounds, pavilions, picnic areas, and designated sport areas for volleyball, golf, bocce, tennis and disc golf, as well as a number of ponds that are stocked and accessible during fishing season.
