Downington, PA
Welcome to scenic, peaceful Downington, one of Chester County’s historic boroughs! Kathie Romano specializes in Chester County residential real estate, focusing on single family homes, townhomes, new constructions and resale properties. Gladly serving the needs of both buyers and sellers, Kathie is experienced with relocations, first time homeowners and home sales in the communities of the Chester County region. Downington was originally settled by English colonists during the early 18th century, originally named Milltown for the number of mills located along the East Branch Brandywine Creek. A prominent Quaker businessman who owned many of these mills officially rechristened the borough Downington in 1812.
Downington’s primary historic attractions are the East Lancaster Avenue Historic District and the Downingtown Log House, which dates back to 1705. In recent years, extensive restoration efforts have been directed into the Log House, which now sits a mere 70 feet west of its original location on the Route 30 sidewalk. Valley Forge and Brandywine Battlefield Park are also easily accessible point of historic interest in our region. Local businesses flourish with the restoration and renovation efforts of our downtown, ranging from quaint boutiques and restaurants to larger scale operations like the popular Victory Brewing Company. However, the true draw of Downington that sets it apart from other boroughs is the idyllic peace and natural beauty available in our community. Recreation amenities in our system of community parks are widely varied and impressive: biking, hiking, athletic fields, pavilions, picnic areas, playgrounds, nature trails, fishing areas and designated sport areas for tennis, baseball, volleyball and basketball are just a sampling of the recreational activities available in Kerr Park, Johnsontown Park, Sunnybrook Park, Marinelli Park and The Ponds. Kerr Park’s 45 acres of maintained open use grounds features "The Sky's the Limit" playground, designed specifically to accommodate children of all levels of ability and encourage cooperative play in our community youth. Additionally, Marinelli Park supports the community garden project Backyard Gardens, bringing community members together to create a co-operative garden that benefits all.
Waterloo Gardens, Marsh Creek State Park, United Sports Training Center, Downingtown Country Club, French Creek State Park and Tyler Arboretum are other local places where wildlife observation, outdoor recreation, sports and appreciation of the outdoors may be enjoyed seasonally. Downington, though a nature-lover’s paradise, has more metropolitan offerings as well. Exton Mall, King of Prussia Mall and Main Street at Exton are available for local shoppers, with a variety of locally owned shops, restaurants and businesses in both Downington and its neighboring boroughs. For the more adventurous, all the city amenities of Philadelphia are just a half-hour’s commute from Downington.
New Downington families appreciate the quality of education available through the Downingtown Area School District, and nearby West Chester University and Immaculata University keep the boroughs of Chester County invigorated by the flow of student activity. History is reflected and cherished in the streets of our borough and nature is preserved and protected in our green spaces. For culture and excitement, or peaceful reflection, take a closer look at the communities of Chester County, and come walk the trails near your new home in Downington!
